Chesapeake Bay Foundation
Virginia Beach, VA | 2011
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) sponsored a multi-school competition to gather design ideas for their new corporate offices in Virginia Beach, VA. The design had to include space for 20 offices, education space, exhibition space and be respectful to the surrounding bay.
Exterior Perspective and Site Plan
Large doors join the exterior courtyard and interior exhibition space, allowing for a flexible space for events and presentations. These doors are also found on each side, allowing for natural ventilation through the building.
The plan of the building is kept open and allows for more interaction for the workers by giving them their own space but not restricting them to it. Each personal desk offers views to the exterior courtyard and the surrounding bay to keep workers happy and motivated.
The design uses a aluminum solar screen that runs the length of the building, allowing natural light inside, and creates a covered exterior courtyard. The courtyard’s research pool not only serves as education space, but gives a relaxing view to those in the offices
